It happens every year: the uneasiness, the uncertainty about what I should be doing in a moment, the feeling that I’m wasting time but lacking the motivation to do anything productive. To do anything.
I know I’m not unique in this, but the thought of thousands of other people feeling a little bit lost, too, isn’t exactly a comfort.
All of our habits begin and end in the dark.
It’s winter, and I’m missing my muse again.
My days are filled with ideas of projects and stories and website redesigns, but my evenings find me loitering on the couch, paralyzed and unused.
I could sit at this computer all night, tranquilized by the sensation of fingers hitting keys, soothed by the tactile repetition, but the words wouldn’t come out right.

So I’m not the only one with an overwhelming “meh” feeling at the moment? Somehow that’s comforting.
But sweet lady, the words came out perfectly! Even in the midst of seasonal fonk, your talents slink out and wave gently to the world. They — and your sweet band of snugglies (two- and four-legged) — will continue to sustain you until the snow’s off the daffodils again and we’re able to emerge from hibernation.
(Speaking of daffodils, they’re on sale @ Kroger right now. I know it’s not the same as seeing them peeking out from the end of the house, but burying my nose in them @ The Office has been helping me.)
xoxoxoxo
man I’m so with you on that feeling. It leaves me flailing around contemplating cutting my hair off again. Or moving my blog to another host. And all of these unwritten lists of things to do, projects, books to read, and I can’t even get motivated to write them down. Times like this make me wonder if I was a plant in a past life, and it’s lack of sunshine that leaves me feeling a little listless.
Grandefille, thank you for your sweet words. My kitties definitely help get me through the winter!!
I guess it does help to know that y’all get what I’m talking about. Spring (and daylight savings time) can’t come soon enough this year!!!
