I don’t understand the “He’s gone too soon” reaction to Michael Jackson’s death. Two days ago, Michael Jackson was a broke pedophile freakshow living in Dubai. We were never going to get another Thriller, another Off the Wall, even another Bad.
It’s always sad when someone dies, especially 30 or so years before normal life expectancy. But Michael Jackson wasn’t normal. Did we really expect to see him at 80 sitting in a rocking chair on a porch some day?
At one time, he was an extraordinary talent: He made incredible music and danced like no human will ever be able to perfectly replicate.
But the Michael Jackson that everyone is mourning today?
He died years ago.

The Passing Of A King » Popular Fidelity » Videos added these pithy words on Jun 26 09 at 11:37 amMegan, I couldn’t agree with you more. I would also like to add that I find it a bit ridiculous for each news station to report what stupid celebrities are saying about him on Twitter. I swear, what the fuck to do I care what Mylie Cyrus thinks about him dying, she wasn’t even born when his songs were popular! AND, I heard someone on MTV last night say that “If it weren’t for MIchael Jackson, people like Usher, Chris Brown, and Neo, who is one of the greatest song writer of our time, wouldn’t be around.” What the friggle frack! NEO! Hello, ever heard of JOHN LENNON, PAUL McCARTNEY, JONI MITCHELL, ELTON JOHN, hell, I’d even give props to #1 douche John Mayer for writing more interesting songs than Neo! Jesus H. fucking Christ. I damn near spit my food out of mouth! And Chris Brown? I thought he was a woman beater, not a pedophile?
Don’t get me wrong, I like Michael Jackson’s music, and he did contribute to pop culture in a way other pop artists will never be able to, but damn people. I totally agree with you Megan!
Btw, I think I am going to go on a hunger strike until I hear what the Jonas Brothers have to say about this. I just can’t live another day without hearing how the ugly one is dealing with this tragic loss. And just in case Lindsay Lohan is reading this, hang in there, I’m sure you’ll live another day to end up in rehab 5 more times before you’re 30. Hang in there.
Peace.
uhmm katie. it’s NE-YO not keanu from the matrix. and i appreciate the mention of john mayer! but just because miley cyrus wasnt around when he made great music doesnt mean she cant put in her two cents in.
but whatever, its old news by now.
I would expect that comment to come from someone who both loves crap music from Ne-yo as well as miley cyrus. And yes, she is allowed to comment, but again, my point was, what the fuck to I care what Miley Cyrus thinks about ANYTHING?
You guys are cracking me up.
I will say, though, that people like Miley Cyrus are just making official statements solely for the purpose of getting their name out there and getting more publicity. While the First Amendment definitely applies and Miley can say whatever she wants, it’s people like her–who have NOTHING to do with Michael Jackson or the kind of music he made and who are so obviously and desperately grasping at the coattails of his fame–that contribute to the jading of the pop-culture-consuming American public.
That is precisely what I was trying to say, although much more dully than you. Thanks.
I am a MJ fan, and yes there was a bit of too much coverage. He was not broke at all as you see. I don’t believe he touched children and I am not saying that because I like his music. Yes he looked weird at times I agree, and then others he looked ok to me,even really nice during photo shoots,if he could have just went without the red lipstick but that’s who he was, no uglier than any other people I see on a daily basis. Other artist wear makeup and etc. Gays are accepted but not those who look different from others, society really sickens me on their thoughts of who acceptable and who’s not. Elton was ugly and gay looking but I guess that’s not a problem huh. John Lennon another not so hot looking person but does that change music and their style, no… MJ’s last 2 albums dangerous and invincible are just a good as the old one if not better and those are the one’s I listen to the most. We all have demons weather hitting, drugs, unforgiveness, jealousy, lair, shopaholic, mean spirited, gosip, over eating, untamed anger and etc, none any greater or less according to god. So people should stop putting levels of degree on sin because their is non any greater than the other, don’t believe me read the bible. One thing the press doesn’t cover which was the most important – the great humanitarian he was, he set the bar and raised it. Research it.
yes, i have some punctuation errors, but u get my point………
A couple of comments:
1. I don’t care if your comment has a few punctuation errors. Unless you’re passing yourself off as a news organization.

2. I don’t really mind the media coverage of Jacko’s death. My post was expressing my irritation with the way that everyone seems to have forgotten that he hasn’t done anything worthwhile in YEARS, and that the figure they are mourning died, figuratively, years ago.
3. Whether or not he touched children, who knows, but he did admit to sleeping in the bed with lots of them and giving them booze. That in itself is pretty gross.
And lastly, directing me (or any intelligent being, really) to the Bible for factual advice is pretty much as useful as asking me to consult Wikipedia for instructions on how to perform brain surgery. The Bible is an OK book, I guess–but it’s still just fiction.
1st I am glad u don’t care about punctuation, but other people may, so I let it be known. Ummm MJ never admitted to giving alcohol, please direct to which interview this was stated. He was a boy, so what do you want him to do sleep with girls in the room. He hadn’t done anything worthwhile in years, really, charities were still getting money, and he still visited sick children, so what do you call not worthwhile, are u speaking of a new album? Yes his last was released in 2001 so it has been awhile but that didn’t change my opinion of him.
And if that is you belief in the bible, I deeply feel for you and any others.
Jeez, you really ran with the shitty grammar once I said I didn’t mind punctuation errors from non-news sources, huh? Pro tip: Punctuation errors and grammatical errors are not necessarily the same thing.
Also, while I’m inclined to be impressed by your ostensible capacity for cognitive dissonance, I have to insist that you not feel for me. I definitely don’t for you and your other fundamentalist crazies.
